When it comes to cleaning there are dozens of products out there, aligned on the shelves of supermarkets. Probably you have already tried almost every brand and every possible commercial product, maybe you have even switched to eco-green products from which you are spending a small fortune. We have good news for you. You can stop buying those chemicals or non-chemical products and your house with just three products: baking soda, white vinegar and lemon!
Baking Soda: Give some credit to baking soda! It is capable of doing much more than you think! It’s non-toxic, perfectly capable of absorbing bad odors and dealing with stubborn stains.
- Freshen up your carpets: For a deep , sprinkle your carpet with baking soda, let it sit overnight and vacuum it in the morning. It will deeply clean your carpet and deodorise it.
- Deep clean upholstered furniture: You can follow the same step as the above for any upholstered furniture which requires soft cleaning . You don’t need to let baking soda sit overnight, 15 minutes would do the trick.
- Whiten your walls: When your kids decide to use your walls as canvases you might end up with some artwork on your walls. In case this happens, make a paste of equal parts baking soda and water and apply it to the area. This works better on white walls. Before trying, test on a small surface.
- Polish your silverware: You really don’t need toxic commercial products for this. Mix three parts baking soda and one part water until it becomes a paste. Rub onto the silverware and rinse with water.
- Remove burnt food: It’s not impossible to remove stubborn burnt food from the bottoms of pans or pots. Sprinkle baking soda over the burnt areas, pour hot water and let it sit overnight.
White Vinegar: Being a natural disinfectant, white vinegar can help you to fight back bacterias.
- Unclog a drain: White vinegar and baking soda go good together when it comes to cleaning. Pour half cup vinegar and same amount baking soda down the drain. Rinse with water.
- Stop using cloudy glasses: Fill the sink with water and add 1 cup vinegar. Soak your cloudy glasses. Alternatively, put 1 cup vinegar in the bottom of your dishwasher before you run the cycle.
- Clean your coffee machine: The best way to get rid of mould and coffee ground is vinegar. Fill the water chamber with equal parts water and white vinegar. Turn on the brew cycle, and then turn it off halfway through. Let it sit for an hour and turn on the brew cycle. Run three quick cycles of water through the machine.
- Clean spills on the carpet: is a tough chore even without spills. But don’t let spills give you nightmares. Remove liquid as much as you can, spray the stain with a solution half vinegar and half water. Let it sit for a few minutes then blot with a towel.
- Remove mould: Spray the moulded area with vinegar, let it sit for 15 minutes, rinse and let dry. This trick would work for walls, floor and even for shower curtain.
Lemon: When life hands you lemons use it for cleaning, then make a lemonade! Lemons are natural disinfectant and stain remover. Plus, lemons will leave a pleasant scent after the cleaning.
- Keep your fridge fresh: No matter how good you take care of your fridge there can be that odd smell time to time. No worries! Just put half lemon inside.
- Prevent limescale on faucets: Rub fixtures with lemon juice. Let it sit overnight, rinse in the morning.
- Remove stains from grouts: You absolutely don’t need chemical products for this one. Make a paste from lemon juice and a tsp of cream tartar or baking soda. Apply it to the area with a toothbrush. and, Brush it until the stain is gone, rinse with water.
- Clean food storage containers: Pour juice a lemon into containers, add a little bit baking soda. Rub it to the stains. If the stains are stubborn let the mixture sit overnight.
- Disinfect your wooden cutting board and spoons: Wood is a very absorbent material. To prevent diseases you should take good care of your wooden cutting board and spoons. Spill the salt and rub it for two minutes with the half lemon. This will disinfect your wooden material and make it smell fresh again.
