We all love our furry four-legged friends. However, we all get frustrated when the time for shedding commences. The effort to keep your home and clothing fur-free may be nerve-racking, especially if you have important work-related stuff and need to make a good impression. So here is an easy guide to make life easier!

Equipment:

Before we look at methods, we are going to need a list of equipment. After that, you can choose which method, depending on your equipment, suits you best!

  • Spray bottle
  • Fabric softener
  • Balloon
  • Squeegee
  • Rubber gloves or rubber flip flops
  • Lint roller/ FURemover broom
  • Baking soda
  • Vacuum cleaner (try out the Dyson Animal- it’s designed especially for animal fur!)

Methods:

Now that you’ve had a look at what equipment can come in handy, let’s take a look at a few different methods for pet fur removal.

Fabric softener pet hair removal technique:

  • First off, create a solution of 1 part fabric softener to 3 parts water in a spray bottle.
  • Follow up by spraying your rug lightly with the mixture. Be careful not to apply too much, you only need to spray a light mist over your carpet.
  • Leave to dry (this shouldn’t take long if you’ve applied a small amount of the solution).
  • Use a vacuum cleaner to suck up all the fur. Hoover regularly. The fabric softener loosens up the pet hair
  • allowing for the hoover to remove it easily.

Balloon method:
How to Remove Stubborn Pet Hair

  • This is a silly, but an effective one. If you have some free time on your hands and a balloon, this is sure to help with the fur problem:
  • Blow up a balloon!
  • Now rub it lightly along the surface of your carpet.
The static from the balloon will attract the hairs, pulling them from the fibers of your carpet.

Squeegee method:

  • You may have a squeegee lying about the place, but if you get an extra-wide one this technique is even better!
  • Push along the floor. The rubber pulls up the pet hair, freeing it easily from your rugs.

Lint rollers/ FURemover:

  • Now you may be wondering what these are. Both are very good tools intended for pet hair removal. The lint roller is a smaller contraption with a sticky surface that picks up the pet hair as you roll it along your carpet or even an item of clothing. This is a smaller device and is better from smaller areas.
  • The FURemover is a special carpet brush for pet hair removal. You may order one online if they don’t supply them at your local pet shop. You use it like a normal brush, only you brush your carpet with it! It’s a larger item, ideal for larger areas.

Rubber glove/flip flop technique:

  • These two go together because, believe it or not, you have to wear them both on your hands!
  • Now if you get them ever so slightly damp, and wipe them over the surface of your rugs and carpets, you will notice that the fur is sticking to them!

The baking soda method is the standard technique used for carpet cleaning. For more information see method here.
Of course, there comes a point when none of these techniques and tools will do the job. When it gets to this stage it’s best to hire a professional carpet cleaner to bring back the bright colour life in your carpet!
